There is something about thick sweet potato fries that have been a go-to for an appetizer for a while. When cooked with the outside slightly crispy, they are the best option for dipping in yummy sauces, including chimichurri aioli and Sriracha Ketchup. Preparation time and ease of serving work well for a group of guest.

I tried various cooking methods, air fryer sweet potato wedges and sweet potato wedges in oven, to create the one recipe that brought out the best flavor and texture for the wedges. This is the best way; the preparation time is quick, and cook time is longer. They are roasted in the oven to bring sweetness and a some what crisp exterior.

How to make roasted sweet potato wedges

Preheat the Oven. Preheat the oven at 400℉ with the oven rack in the center.

Cut the Sweet Potatoes. Cut the potato lengthwise first, place flat side on the cutting board and cut lengthwise again. Now cut the quarter in half lengthwise. To make smaller pieces you can cut in half first for short pieces.

Coat the potatoes. Put the sweet potatoes in bowl and add all ingredients to the bowl and mix up well so all potatoes are coated.

Ready to Roast. On a cooking sheet add all potatoes and make sure the potatoes are not crowded on the sheet. if there are you will need to use a second sheet.

Bake. Bake the potatoes for 15 minutes on one side of the wedge. Take out of the oven and flip the potatoes to the other side and back for another 15 minutes.

Ready to Eat. Take out of the oven and sprinkle with some kosher salt if desired. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.

How to air fry sweet potato wedges

To say I love these sweet potato wedges might seem like an exaggeration, but they have such great flavor. Even my friends and family who are not real fans of sweet potatoes have come around to how delicious these can be.

Using an air fryer for sweet potato fries is excellent for taking time off the clock to eat. It cuts the time in half and still is, oh so delicious!

There is a caveat to sweet potato wedges in the air fryer, which is like all cooking equipment heat temperatures can vary. I scorched some edges of the potato while testing cooking times, lesson learned. While this did not take away from the taste, I knew I needed to make a note of my cooking time and temperatures for my Cuisinart Airfryer.

Air Fry. Air fry the sweet potato wedges for 14 minutes at 400℉. Flip the potatoes after 8 minutes and cook for another 6 minutes.

Ready to Air Fry. Set on the air fryer grate and similar to baking, make sure they are spaced and not crowded.

What sauce goes good with sweet potato fries?

Chimichurri Aioli. This zesty fresh herbed sauce is creamy and refreshing with sweet potato fries.

Sriracha ketchup. This sauce gives the kick that compliments the sweetness of the potato so beautifully. It is easy to prepare and even your pickiest of eaters will love the flavor combo.

Lemon Herb Dressing. Drizzling this punchy and tart dressing brings a flavor brightness to the warmed potatoes that will make your lips pucker (just a little) in a great way.

Sriracha Mayo. Preparing with 2 tablespoons mayo and 1 teaspoon Sriracha for a dip that has enough heat for a great taste.

Chimichurri. This is the Argentinian version of the sauce that is zesty with some crushed red pepper flakes and drizzly with that really good extra virgin olive oil and garlicky! A preparation method that I tried for this was to add strained greek yogurt and room temperature, place the sweet potatoes on top and drizzle with the chimichurri. This is a pure delight and the creaminess of the yogurt pairs so well with the sauce and sweet potatoes. A must try if you are in the mood for something fresh and new.

Storage Tips

  • Store. Store in an air-tight glass container, and I link it with paper towel. This captures some moisture when in the refrigerator. This will last for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat. To reheat your sweet potato wedges, place them on a cooking sheet and warm them at 325 degrees in the oven. Keep them spaced apart on the cooking sheet.
  • Freeze. My recommendation is to eat when they are prepared. I have tried several ways to freeze, and they are less than optimal, so I don’t recommend it. Trust me…there will be no leftovers, they are that good!
